ABS Auction Bowie
Pictured below is one of the knives that will be auctioned off at the Blade Show by the American Bladesmith Society. It was made by Ray Kirk (blade) and Jerry Lairson, Sr. (hardware and handle). I regret that we were unable to complete the knife in time for a picture to be published. The photography of this knife was donated by Chuck Ward and he has sent both Jerry and I a large picture of it. Mr. Don Fogg of Jasper, Alabama will also have a link to this page from the ABS web site and it will be here until well after the show.
The blade was forged and finished by myself from 52100, 15N20, and 4352 steels. It is of a firestorm pattern that was shown to John Martin by Jerome Anders. John showed me how Jerome did it and it turned out very nice. The blade is about 8 1/2" long and is 13 5/8" in over all length.
Jerry Lairson did a great job of fitting the hardware and handle of presentation grade maple burl on to the blade. The fittings are nickel silver or stainless, I don't know right now but will find out. The balance point is just at the bottom of Jerry's stamp.
