Bebach Bowie ABS competition Blade for 2004-2005
This is the knife I will be using for the competition season of 2004-2005. So far I have used it in 2 contests. The first one at the Scagel Hammer In and placed second, the second contest was at the Spirit of Steel and I was disqualified for an edge deformation. I redid the edge and tested it some more. As of today, it looks like it will be the last of October at the Piney Woods Hammer in at Washington, Ark. for the next one. I will update this as events happen. UPDATE 6-09-05 The Piney Woods Hammer In was held the last of October and there were 23 entries in the cutting contest. I placed fourth in the contest and am now tied for fifth place with Daniel Winkler with 16 points. Mr. BR Hughes will have an article in Blade about it sometime in the spring. The next and last cutting competition of the season will be at the Batson Bladesmith Symposium in Alabama this coming spring. That is the one that will determine who will be in the finals at the Blade show in Atlanta, Georgia in June of next year. The top three places are pretty far ahead and will most likely place in the top five to go. Dan Farr, Reggie Barker, and Dickie Robinson have been doing very good. If they don't place at all, it could be a very close race. If you get a chance to go, besides the cutting contest, the Batson Symposium is one of the best and largest hammer-in's in the country. I placed 6th and one point out of getting to go to the world championship at Atlanta. I found out it isn't near as much fun to watch as it is to play. Maybe next year I can get Reggie Barker to show me something about cutting. He just won for the second time and I am proud of him. They were all good men that competed and I believe it is a major achievement to just qualify. I am proud of them all. This knife is forged from 52100 and has a twisted damascus S guard. The hidden tang is covered with premium grade curly maple and is attached with K&G epoxy and nickel silver pins. The lanyard is parachute cord from my son in the Marines. The overall length is 14 3/4". The blade is almost 2 inches wide and a length of 9 7/8". The flat ground blade is 1/4" thick at the ricasso and has a distal taper with a clip point that is slightly background. The knife weighs about 16 ounces and has been differentially heat treated. Copies of this knife will come with a heavy leather sheath with a double thick back that is custom made by Mike Stott of Tahlequah, Ok. I am now taking orders on them until they reach five. They will be available for delivery after the 1st of October, 2005 or maybe sooner. It will depend on knife orders. Delivery Price: $950.00, which includes shipping and insurance. There will be a maximum of 5 of these made at this price and they will be stamped with the year of competition (2004-2005) and numbered from 001 to 005.
